WEEK 1 PRACTICE SCHEDULE (11/27-12/1)

Think of the first week of practice, as an intro and exploration of what track & field has to offer you as an athlete.  The goal is for you to have the opportunity to learn the different events, have an understanding of what it takes to compete in these events, and have a chance to try out each of the events.  Although you can opt out in trying an event - we as coaches are going to do our best to encourage you to try them.  You never know what you could possible accomplish or see what you are good at if you don't have the opportunity to try - this is what we would like to give you.  Besides learning and trying new events, the first week of practice is also about team building.  You will get to know your fellow teammates in an array of different activities that will bring you closer as a group while having fun.

Mon 11/27 - Pre Season Meeting, Intro to Warm Ups & Conditioning.

Tue 11/28 - TEAM BUILDING (Relays, Strength Building, & A Scavenger Hunt)

Wed 11/29 - DAY 1 OF WAYLAND TRACK OLYMPICS

Thur 11/30 - DAY 2 OF WAYLAND TRACK OLYMPICS

FRI 12/1 - DAY  3 OF WAYLAND TRACK OLYMPICS

Starting on Wednesday you will all have the opportunity in trying out for the Wayland Track Olympics.  Events will be broken down into 15-20 minute segments, in which coaches will teach the proper mechanics of the event, demonstrate those mechanics, give you the opportunity to try the mechanics, set up a "mini" event for a fun competition, record results, and provide feedback.  Again you are encouraged to try and participate in all of the events.  At the end of the three days we will announce the top three winners in each of the events.  We will also announce and give a special award to both the male / female athlete who scored the most points for all of the events.  Placing and point scoring is based off the top three athletes in each event - besides distances / times recorded - points will also be allocated.  First place - 3 / Second place - 2 / Third place - 1.

2017 Pre-Season Meeting

The 2017 Indoor Track Season Pre-Meeting will be held in the small lecture hall at the high school.  The first half of the meeting will go over the Track Packet and the expectations of the coaches throughout the season.  Some of the main highlighted points we will go over:

1.  To participate in indoor track you must register through Family ID and have a current physical.
To participate in meets and get a uniform you must pay the athletic fee.
Remember to have you and your parents sign the expectations form and turn it into a coach.
Remember to fill out your individual form for the year and turn it into a coach.

2.  Understanding the Warrior Code of Conduct

3.  Varsity Lettering Expectations

4.  Practice Times and Meet Dates, Times, & Locations

5.  Track Pack

6.  Filling out your Individual Expectations Form

7.  Q & A

8.  Calling of Athletes who have not filled out, signed up, or completed registration.

9.  Conflicting Dates, Days, & Times that need to be addressed.

Second half of the 1st day of practice is getting ready and meeting out at the track.  One of the new changes to the indoor track program is the warm up.  This year groups will be divided by birthdates of last letter of the alphabet and learn a specialized warm up designed by each of the coaches. The ideology behind this is that all athletes learn an array of conditioning throughout the season and constantly change the biomechanical system of the body.  All warm ups will be between 15-20 minutes in length for each group.  Rotations will happen daily throughout the year.

Last half is to have some fun, get to know your fellow athletes, and do some basic conditioning through a relay style workout.  Wrap up will be some light stretching and some announcements about the rest of the first week.
